3–Seed Hot Cereal
This is my favorite cold weather/hot cereal. It is made from seed–grains, so it works perfectly for someone that may be reactive to wheat or oats. I buy the seed grains in bulk and then mix it up in equal parts and store it in a glass jar at home.
-
Equal parts quinoa, millet and amaranth. Get these in the bulk section of a health food store.
1 cup of 3-seed grain mixture added to 1 and ½ cups of boiling water. Turn heat down and simmer with pot lid on for 20 to 25 minutes until all the water is absorbed. OR you can place the grains and the water into a rice cooker and the cooker will turn itself off when it's done.
-
Toppings: a little maple syrup, almonds and raisins. Any kind of nuts will work nicely. Cold milk Rice Dream, or soy milk.
If you don't have a rice cooker, this is a great time–saving device for mommies. Don't have to watch it cook and it turns itself off when it's done. You can cook rice or any other grain in a rice cooker.
